Germantown Academy is an independent, coeducational, college preparatory day school located on a beautiful 126-acre campus in the Fort Washington suburbs near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The school serves more than 1,200 students in grades PK-12. Founded in 1759, GA is America’s oldest non-sectarian day school with rich traditions and a strong commitment to ongoing innovation of curricular and pedagogical practices.

Germantown Academy is committed to the work of equity and inclusion and believes that equal opportunity in all aspects of employment supports the mission of the school and the successful attainment of our strategic objectives. Candidates must exhibit an appreciation of, a sensitivity to, and a respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff of varying socioeconomic, cultural, ideological and ethnic backgrounds.

We are seeking an experienced, dynamic Varsity Field Hockey Head Coach to start in June 2024. The head coach will work within GA's Vertically Aligned Program for specific sports. Similar to an academic department head, the Upper School Head Varsity Coach of each Vertically Aligned Program will be responsible for the oversight of the entire 6-12 program, including playing a major role in the hiring of coaches, taking the lead in student recruitment, creating additional opportunities to enhance the competitiveness of the program, and working with coaches to plan student skill development. We believe that this programmatic and personnel program enables GA to meet the three core tenets of our Statement on Athletics:

  1. To offer an inclusive, sequential, and rigorous athletic program.
  2. To be committed to competing successfully throughout our athletic program.

  • Willing and able to be the face of the program as well as a strong role model for the players in the program.
  • Passionate about athletics and the positive impact it has on the broader educational experience.
  • Support GA’s multisport athlete philosophy and assist the Athletic Department in creating a culture where the multisport athlete is expected and celebrated.
  • Deeply committed to the student-athlete’s well-being and success, on and off the field
  • Is team-oriented, willing, and able to work flexible hours, which sometimes includes nights and weekends.
  • Direct all instruction in the sport of Field Hockey for all the Upper and Middle School teams.
  • Organize and run all Field Hockey Varsity team practices.
  • Oversee game management for all Upper School Varsity Field Hockey team games.
  • Assist in attracting quality student-athletes to Germantown Academy.
